Religious fundamentalism, characterized by a strict adherence to perceived foundational religious principles, has increasingly influenced global socio-political landscapes. This article examines how fundamentalist ideologies challenge the democratic, legal, and cultural institutions of modern civilizations. The study investigates historical trends, sociopolitical disruptions, and the erosion of civil liberties tied to religious extremism. By analyzing case studies from South Asia, the Middle East, and Western societies, this paper explores how religious fundamentalism interacts with globalization, national identity, and governance. The article argues for the need to balance religious freedom with mechanisms that preserve pluralism, peace, and civic stability.
