Abstract

Augustine’s City of God stands as a monumental theological and philosophical response to the collapse of Rome and continues to provide a rich framework for understanding the intersection of divine authority, civil order, and historical destiny. In an era marked by post-secular tensions—where religion resurfaces in global politics and ethics—this paper re-evaluates Augustine’s dualistic vision of the civitas Dei (City of God) and the civitas terrena (Earthly City). The study explores how Augustine’s model informs contemporary discourse on sovereignty, public virtue, and moral order. Through historical analysis and thematic exploration, the article aims to bridge classical Christian thought with 21st-century societal challenges.
