THE ROLE OF THEOLOGICAL THOUGHT IN CONSTRUCTING GLOBAL ETHICAL STANDARDS
Keywords:
Theology, Ethics, Global Standards, Moral PhilosophyAbstract
Theological thought has historically served as a cornerstone in shaping the ethical foundations of civilizations across the globe. This article explores the dynamic relationship between theological frameworks and global ethical standards, emphasizing how religious traditions have contributed to universal values such as justice, human dignity, compassion, and moral responsibility. By analyzing comparative theological doctrines from Abrahamic, Eastern, and Indigenous belief systems, this paper highlights the continuity and divergence in ethical imperatives derived from sacred texts and teachings. The paper also addresses the contemporary relevance of theology in responding to global ethical crises including human rights, bioethics, environmental degradation, and global peace. It argues that while secular ethics often dominate global discourse, theology remains indispensable in grounding ethics within culturally resonant and spiritually meaningful paradigms.
